Privacy Policy

This explains how Brown Advisory Solutions ("Brown Advisory Solutions," "we," "us") collects, uses, and shares information through our websites, including this site and Shield Financial ACA (together, the "Sites"), and our quote, chat, and appointment-booking tools (together with the Sites, the "Service").

Brown Advisory Solutions is not an insurance company and does not bind, issue, or guarantee coverage. We connect visitors with independent, state-licensed insurance agents and brokers in our network, who make their own coverage recommendations and are responsible for any binding transaction.

Information we collect

We collect information you give us directly, and a smaller amount automatically:

  • Contact & identity information — name, phone number, email address, state of residence, and preferred language.
  • Coverage information — the product(s) you're asking about (e.g. Marketplace Health, Medicare, Life, Final Expense, Dental & Vision, Critical Illness, Annuities, Long Term Care) and anything you tell us or an agent about your situation.
  • Consent records — whether and when you agreed to be contacted, the exact language you were shown, and your IP address and timestamp at the time (kept as our compliance record, not shared beyond that purpose).
  • Documents you upload — consent forms, ID, or application paperwork you or your agent add to your file. These can contain sensitive information and are stored accordingly — see "Security & retention" below.
  • Conversations with our AI assistant — messages you send our chat assistant or phone assistant, including anything used to create a lead or book an appointment on your behalf.
  • Technical information — IP address, device/browser type, and basic usage data, collected automatically to keep the Service secure and working.

How we use it

  • To connect you with a licensed agent in your state who offers the product you asked about, and give that agent enough context to follow up usefully.
  • To operate the quote form, chat assistant, phone assistant, and appointment booking — including checking real calendar availability and creating a calendar invite when you book a time.
  • To communicate with you about your request, by phone, text, or email, consistent with the consent you gave.
  • To detect and prevent fraud, spam, and abuse of the Service.
  • To meet our own recordkeeping and compliance obligations as a business that generates and routes insurance leads.

We do not use your information to make automated decisions about your eligibility for, or the price of, insurance coverage — that determination is always made by a licensed agent or carrier.

How we share it

We do not sell your personal information. We share it only:

  • With the independent licensed agent or broker assigned to follow up on your request — this is the core of the Service.
  • With insurance carriers, but only as needed to obtain a quote or process an application you've asked to move forward with, and only through you or your assigned agent.
  • With service providers who host our infrastructure, store documents, or process AI conversations on our behalf (currently: Vercel for hosting/database, Anthropic for the AI assistant, Retell for the phone assistant, Resend for email, Google for appointment scheduling) — bound by contract to use it only to provide that service to us.
  • If required by law, or to protect the rights, safety, or property of Brown Advisory Solutions, our users, or the public.
  • In a business transfer (merger, acquisition, or sale of assets), with the same protections carried forward.

ACA Marketplace notice

If you request help with Marketplace Health coverage, federal rules require a separate, specific consent before we or an affiliated agent can access or discuss your Marketplace application information with you. That consent is collected at the point of request and can be withdrawn at any time without affecting your Marketplace eligibility.

AI-assisted communications

Our chat and phone assistants are automated tools, not licensed agents. They can answer general questions, and — only after you clearly agree to be contacted — create a lead in our system and book a specific appointment time on our calendar, which sends you a real calendar invite. They are instructed never to give binding coverage advice and to hand anything specific about pricing or eligibility to a licensed agent. Conversations with them are stored the same way as other contact records described in this policy.

Security & retention

We use industry-standard safeguards, including encrypted connections, access-controlled document storage (uploaded files are kept private and served only through an authenticated link, never a public URL), and rate-limiting against automated abuse. No method of storage or transmission is perfectly secure, and we can't guarantee absolute security.

We keep your information for as long as needed to provide the Service and meet our legal and compliance recordkeeping obligations, then delete or anonymize it.

Your choices & rights

  • Opt out of contact at any time — reply STOP to any text, use the unsubscribe link in any email, or contact us directly.
  • Ask what we have on file about you, ask us to correct it, or ask us to delete it, subject to what we're required to keep for compliance reasons.
  • State-specific rights — depending on where you live, you may have additional rights under state consumer privacy laws.

To exercise any of these, contact us at getinfo@shieldfinancial.co.

Children's privacy

The Service is directed at adults seeking insurance coverage for themselves or their families. It is not directed at children, and we do not knowingly collect information from anyone under 18.

Changes to this policy

We'll update the date at the top of this page when we make changes, and post the new version here. Continued use of the Service after a change means you accept the update.
